Her family also moved to Eatonville, Florida where were one of the first all black towns to be incorporated in the United States. Her father later became mayor of the town.
In 1918, Hurston began undergraduate studies at Howard University. She later became one of the earliest initiates of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority and co-founded The Hilltop, the university's student newspaper. Hurston took many courses, Spanish, English, Greek and public speaking and earned an Associate's Degree in 1920. Hurston left Howard in 1924 and in 1925 was offered a scholarship to Barnard College. Hurston received her B.A. in anthropologyy in 1927.
When Hurston arrived in New York City in 1925. The mid-1930s, Hurston had published several short stories and the critically acclaimed Mules and Men. In the 1940s, Hurston's work was published in such periodicals as The American Mercury and The Saturday Evening Post. Also Her last published novel was Seraph on the Suwanee.

“Those that don't got it,
can't show it.

Those that got it,
can't hide it.”

What Zora mean by this quote is that if you have something its hard to show it off, but when you have it you cant hide it. Shes right because in any circumstance you can not show off what you do not have and when you do its impossible to hide it. This refers to my life and the life around me because everyone have something that they have that others don't and its hard to hide it from everyone, but when you have it, its to hard for anybody to hide it.

Invictus

  • What was the Apartheid?
  • What is an Afrikaans?
  • Why was there racial strife in South Africa?
  • What was Nelson Mandela's personal history?  Where/when was he born?  What was his education?
  • Why was Nelson Mandela put in prison?
  • What kind of prison was it? Where was it located?
  • What happened to his family while he was in prison?
  • How long was he in prison?
  • How did he become President of South Africa?
  • What were his goals as President of South Africa?  How did he accomplish these goals?

  • 1. Apartheid means separation between whites and blacks that live in South Africa from 1948 to the early 1994 it was made into international law but it was also a violation. Also when the law took place people were classified as whites, black/African or blacks of mixed cultured descent.

    2. A language of southern African, derived from the form of Dutch brought to the Cape by Protestant settlers in the 17th century

    3. White people in South Africa did not want black people as ruler so they protested to be separated from the blacks and in later years the blacks held strikes because of inferior working conditions.

    4. Mandela was born on July 18 1918 (age 94) in Mvezo, South Africa

    5. Nelson Mandela was arrested and jailed because he was accused of treason by the South African government.

    6. Nelson Mandela was first imprisoned in Howick, then transferred to Marshall Square prison. Mandela and his co-accused were transferred from Pretoria to the prison on Robben Island where he remained for the next eighteen of his twenty-seven years in prison. In March 1982 Mandela was transferred from Robben Island to Pollsmoor Prison.

    Race and Racism

what young people know and understand about race.  Is there a difference between how genders experience race and racism?

Racism is very real for young people today. Young people know and understand about race and also do not know that every gender experience racism in different ways. This means that racism has had a major affect on everyones lives, even starting from birth as a young child. Whatever your color, gender, and cutural background is everyone experience racism in the world.

Many adults try to hide racism from their children but the problem is, little kids already know about racism. In the film "A Girl Like Me" young children that were African Americans were given a test on which doll they would like to play with. More than half of all the children would rather play with a white doll than a black doll. These children thought white dolls were prettier and nicer, and the black doll were hideous and evil. Racism is not taught, it's something they learned from expirence.

Decades many people have been discriminating against African American people and bring their self esteem down also. When someone thinks about African American people they see kinky hair, dark skin, ugly and bad. Truth is not all people with dark skin is evil. Trevon Martin was followed and killed for being African American and wearing a hoodie. Trevon was killed by a white man who thought Trevon was a threat to him. The police department did not react quickly to this because he was a "white man". If the story was the opposite and Trevon was white and the killer was black, the man would have done life in prison without hesitating.

    In conclusion,

    Glory Road Open Ended

When people generally react to those who are willing to step outside the box many other people find their actions unacceptable because many people do not think it is okay for them to let people do what they want in their own way. From the movie "Glory Road" Bobby Jo scene he mentions how he have a great love for basketball but no body do not want to see him play on any teams because of the color of his skin. What Bobby Jo means is he is judged by the color of his skin and African Americans can not play on the same team as white players because everyone think of African Americans differently. Its very important for Don Haskins to think differently because its unbelievable that a White coach would ever put all black players on a team. In the movie it explains how Don Haskins looking for many African American players to play for his team, he mentions "im not looking at the color i look at quick and skill". Don Haskins wanted to make a difference in the basketball world, he wanted people to know that African American should play with white players and their very good at the sport and to do not judge players by their skin. Don Haskins reminds me of how coaches act towards their players today, many coaches do not look for a certain skin color they only look for skills.

Valentine was a holy priest from Rome. We celebrate his honor on February 14th every year in which day he have past. We celebrate his day because in his time there was a Roman king that wanted men to join the army and but all the men wanted was to marry and have families, so the king made it illegal to marry. Valentine believed the men should not be forced to not marry the ones they love so he would marry couples in secret until the king have found out and put Valentine in prison. He wrote his family and friends and ask for their prayers and not to forget their Valentines. The king have murdered Valentine on the day February 14th.

By the graph i can say that around the times people have the most fun and excitement is around spring break and 2 weeks before Christmas. For people who have a hard time struggling family and relationships around this time people should take time to relax and think about there actions that will effect there loved ones.
Spring break is a time for freedom and fun and many people do not want to be in a relationship around that time, to survive a spring break relationship you have to set time for your partner and cause less tension on the relationship.
People on Monday's are mostly moody and stubborn so that explains why many people would break up. To avoid a Monday break up try not to be so moody try going to sleep earlier and have a good attitude so you can not start off your day terrible.
April fools day is full of jokes and being rude, to prevent a April fools break up and you wanna play jokes on your partner try not to make the prank so harsh and mean.
Many people also break up around Valentines Day so they would not have to spend a whole lot of money on presents so many people do not like to be in a relationship around that time of the year. If you wanna stay in a relationship around Valentines day you do not have to spend thousands of dollars try to do  something from the heart you do not have to spend money to make some one happy. Your presence should be good enough.
Summer holidays are very calm and relaxing usually people do not break up around that time and if they do its usually the start of summer. In the summer relationships should be the time you and your partner should spend the most time with each other hang out everyday

    Figurative Language!

Personification is giving an non-living thing or nature human characteristics.

Monday is dull and boring. Monday is terrible no energy, no joy just like an old cat.

Tuesday is more hyper than Monday. Tuesday is like an Middle aged man. Tuesday is not as dull like Monday.

Wednesday is like a moody girl. Sometimes happy and calm and but also very stressful and aggravating.

Thursday is the coolest you can ever meet. Very chilled like Friday but Thursday is a day of relaxation.

Friday is the life of the party! Excited and happy and spoiled. Friday is like the youngest child in the family.

Saturday! Everyone loves Saturday very fun and more energized then Friday. Saturday is the best you can be around, always can make you happy and stressfree

Sunday, is like an old angry lady. No body likes Sunday because when Sunday comes you will have to get ready for Monday.

    MLK

From the people that have died for wanting the life that i am experiencing today, i am taking advantage of because life is different compared to what Dr.King went through. "I may not get there with you, but i want you to know tonight that we as people will get to the promised land." What Dr. King was hoping for was equality and everyone to live a better future without chaos. If Dr.King walked into my class today, i think he would be satisfied of many things but also disappointed by many others. My school is a mixed school and i am taking advantage of the education i am receiving that young black students would not have been taught years ago.

Dr.King would be very proud that the United States have there first African American president. Obama is trying to give children a better look on education and tries to get every child the best to succeed in life. I am glad i have an African American in my generation. African Americans came a long way from not being eligible to vote to now being able to become a president. Obama is standing up for the black community and offering the best he can do to make everyone lives of American better.

Mixed School and the education system is still very similar to Dr.King time. There is all white schools but African American students can attend. In a white community there education system is better than an African American community. Usually some schools in the white community is ahead of other schools. The environment and also a different feeling. Dr.King would not be proud of that, mainly because the African American community made it this way. Our community is ignorant and inappropriate, its not all of the community but mainly the people that do not care give a bad reputation for all of African Americans. When one looks bad it makes the whole African American population.

This is important to remember where we come from and how far we came. Dr.King would be relieved on many African Americans because they are going forward in life and making a better future for themselves. Also for all the people that do not take advantage of the life where living they are going to be stuck in the past and be judged. We as people should always be equal and treated all the same. No time for ignorance and hatred.

Love is as painful as a
    stab in the chest.
Love is as beautiful as a
    mountain full of snow.
Love is as emotional as the
    rain clouds in the sky
    crying over whatever it has
    on its mind.
Love is as joyous as a
    baby's first laughter.

"National Free Shopping Day" (one free item per person)

My name is Tiffany and i would like to propose a new holiday called "National Free Shopping Day". This new holiday will help many people that would like to get an item that they can not afford or do not want to spend money on. The purpose of national free shopping day is to have everyone to have something that they always wanted for free. Having one day or getting free items will make people more likely to begin shopping at the store after and also make everyone aware of the new holiday. The date of holiday will be at 12:01 am to 8am on January 1st. I choose those times because many people is out celebrating the new years and also welcoming the New Year with one day of free shopping. Everyone will have a fresh start. People who would be in charge on what would be sold will be the managers. They will choice what they want to be sold for free to the customers so the store would not lose valuable merchandise and leave the store empty.

Helpers can be workers that was hired from the store and also volunteers. Volunteers can be from the same community and have many helping hands so National free shopping day will not be chaos like Black Friday. To be invited in the national free shopping day you will have to be a member of the store (similar to Bj's). Basically anyone can be invited as long as you sign up to become a member of the store. The national free shopping day will be located at selected stores. Some activities will involved games for children to get free items.

"He tied his boat off and started to climb the cliffs. He knew that no one had lived to tell what was behind the cloud, but still he climbed."
Its going to be a dangerous mission. One mistake, one slip can have him tumbling back down to the earth floor. Its been 5 days on the boat traveling to get to the mystery island. Elders say.. "Whom who gone to the island and went up the mountain, never came back".
Michael. The courageous young man. Michael have heard all the tales of the mystery mountain when her was a child. Always dreamed, one day going up there and coming back to the city and telling everyone his experience.
"Michael you must have lost your mind". Michael's girlfriend Christina shouted out to him. "Its always been my dream, i have to go and no one is going to stop me". Michael replied calmly. This conversation continuously appearing in his mind while leaving his home in North Alaska. Very cold but also very motivated, Michael keeps on climbing, not stopping until he reaches the top.

This photo represents a women named Terri Gurrola and she is reunited with her daughter after serving in Iraq for 7 months. This photo expresses a lot of feelings. I can imagine how Terri felt when she finally see her daughter and held her in her arms. I see a very relieved mother to finally get to see her daughter. Terri is hugging her daughter tight and crying. I know this was the happiest moment in Terri’s life when she have laid eyes on her daughter. 7 months is a very long time. Especially when you have a child back home, wondering how she’s doing, how fast she’s growing up and your child never leaving your mind. While Terri was fighting in the war, I know her daughter was the only person on her mind. Many people that serve in the military have a friends and family back home they stay on their mind. Its very hard for them because there lives are in danger and not sure if they will make it home safely. I know being away from some one you care about so much hurts a lot. The feelings is the worse that anyone can experience because no one knows if they will ever see their loved ones again. I think while this picture was being taken I believe that Terri and her daughter did cried when they see each other. Terri felt like the happiest women alive to finally see her daughter. Also the mother and daughter had a lot of catching up to do after being apart for 7 months. Terri has missed a lot from being away for so long. Relationships between mothers and daughters can be special and close, but they can also be thorny and problematic. Some mothers and daughters are best friends. Others talk once a week. Some see each other weekly; others live in different states or countries. Some spar regularly. Some avoid conflict, but this little girl was separated by her mom from war. I know every day Terri Gurrola daughter would think about her mother every day and every night. Vice Versa with Terri Gurrola. She was fighting for her country. Also she was fighting to return home to her daughter and family. This is a very touching scene depicted here reveals her deep emotional commitment to her family, and to her country, as she hugs her young daughter, having been in Iraq. We need to bring our troops home. So many other can experience the happiness and joy of finally reuniting with there family and friends after being gone for long. This picture of Terri Gurrola and her daughter brought tears to my eyes. The photo is very inspiring. For all the troops in war right now have a lot of courage and bravely to go out and fight for our country and many of our troops do not never return. Imagine your loved one when off to war and they have never return. Being a small child and not having one of your parents there watch you grow up in to a independent adult. But instead you have to struggle and deal with the fact that your mother or father is gone forever because of the horrible wars that be taken place in this world. This photo will inspire Terri Gurrola to push further in life and also stand tall and stay strong for her daughter and family. Terri Gurrola is a very strong person she was not ashamed of breaking down in tears after finally seeing her daughter. Every second will seem like forever being away from the one you loved. I strongly believe that Terri Gurrola had many thoughts and prayers going threw her mind when she was finally leaving Iraq and coming back to America. The only thought she had in her mind was her beautiful daughter. The first site the first hug the first sound. Of her daughter would have made Terri cried. If I was in her shoes I would have done the same actions. I would not believe in a my own flesh and blood and leaving to go to war in another country. Praying everything, hoping I will come back. If I was Terri Gurrola I would break down in tears every day. I would be scared of death, I would be scared of fighting for our country. I like to help out other people but I do not want to have the possible chance of losing my own life. Terri Gurrola is really a lucky women. She have God on her shoulders watching over her and her family. You would have to be a very strong and confident person to become a troop and fight in these wars. All they have is faith and God to protect them but the horrible people out here in this world.  Many lose their lives to protect the ones that they love and give all it takes to protect the innocent and there country. Imagine the pain? Imagine the suffering? Imagine the troopers mind. War tears people apart but also bring many closer together. Imagine being the little girl in this image. I know she would pray every night to finally see her mother and praying that she made it through the day safely and unharmed. Terri Gurrola and her daughter inspired thousands of people with this photo. This photo touched many hearts. Brought many tears and joy to thousands of people. Many of people in this world also feel her pain and relief. God bless Terri Gurrola and her family and also many of the other troops in war right now, fighting to come home and be reunited with their loved ones similar to Terri and her daughter. A lot of people in this world could not imagine the feeling the pain troopers feel while being out of the country. God stays with them and tries his best to save as much lives as possible.

Short Story is in First-person narrative !

    Move To Los Angeles.

We really do love The Big Apple. We are packing today and moving by tommorow. I don't want to leave, I was born here. It's sad to leave this place. Me and my mother have huge plans for me in Los Angeles.  Before we get ready for the long 45 hour drive across the country, i take one last adventure around the city. I want to become a photographer when i get older. Photography is my passion. Im only 15 years old and i already have a career goal. While walking down 42nd street, i take numerous photos of the people and buildings around me to reminisce the city and how much i loved being here in New York.
    "Novemeber 3, 2010"-
"Alex!" My mother called out me, "Its time to load the truck". It was moving day. My mother always said it was time to move on and find a better life.. but not in the city of New York. I was apathetic i never wanted to move to California. We had no choice to move my mom have lost her job. I looked over the boxes a final time and sighed heavily. My heart ached to leave the city. Getting in the car driving farther and farther away saying goodbye to the only place i thought was home. I had many problems on my mind that i know i would have to face once i get to California. Its hard for a introvert kid to make new friends in school. The drive was astonishing many sites to see and i made a album of all the states me and my mother stopped in. The different towns the farms the people. It was a whole new view.
    "November 10, 2010"-
Finally arrived in California. Our new house was much bigger than where we use to live in New York and nice and peaceful. Completely opposite than being in a busy city. We have moved with my aunt Carole. For the past couple days i have stayed in my room and look threw all my photo albums. "Alex would you like to see photographers in action" my mother walked in the room. "Of course!" Immediately i jumped up and grabbed my jacket. My mother have took me down town to a school of photography. I really thought this was the best day of my life. All around me was cameras and lights, I was overwhelmed. My mother have let me stayed with the camera crew for a couple hours while she went out job hunting. Learning hands on was providential for me i did not know a lot about photography expect of what i have seen on the internet. I felt very fortunate i had the time of my life. After this day i knew Los Angeles was the place for me to learn and be the best at photographer i can be...

During Hurricane Sandy when it started raining, the weather was not bad at all it was windy. After the first day of Sandy the weather became harsh. Trees began falling down, water began to rise and start floods. I lost my power during the storm for a week. Many people have lost there homes and lost relatives but i did not experience damages to my home and my family was safe.
After Sandy I have had no power and every store and gas station was shut down. It was very cold and no food, me and my family went to Delaware where there was power and was not affected by the storm as much. Me and my family did okay after the storm have occur. My mother still had to go to work in New York.A couple days after the hurricane my mother have called me from the city and she have said "I have ran out of gas looking for gas". Many of the gas stations was close and the ones that will be open will have a line that will go on for hours. My mom did not have enough time to find a shorter line at the gas station. My mother was stuck in New York. But have also have a house in NY and my mother was safe and had a place to stay for a couple days.
Hurricane Sandy taught us how to be there for each other, give out a helping hand and also learn how to deal with a tragedy. Many people have donated money and purchase food and water for the people that was affected from the storm and that have no way to survive and make it on there own. Long days with out help from the destruction and long cold dark nights. I could imagine how people can feel that will have to try and keep there families warms and with food on there plate without power. Hurricane Sandy was a major problem, but it have also brought us together and to help other when there in need of help.

    The Poem of Adventure

    Deep inside the mountain
    the adventures hide themselves.
They are of all forms and shapes.
They all have an excellent ending,
because those that life their lives in adventure
see the world in an extra ordinary special way.

To attract the adventures into the patterns of habit
you only need to close your eyes
and ask them to embrace you.
You can also imagine that you are transparent
and feel the wind stream through you
    instead of going against you.
Or imagine there are tiny little wings on your back
and every time you take a new step you bounce a bit.

Maybe life it self is one big adventure
if only you have the correct shades on.

This poem means to think about adventure differently, not a wild place but some where to  live life and enjoy the free land. A lot of people like Chris McCandless enjoy the thrill of adventure, and like to feel free and let the wind carry him. Chris McCandless have experience many things in his life, throughout his adventure around the country Chris have been through many different states. McCandless enjoyed the first couple months in Alaska, as the poem states "
because those that life their lives in adventure see the world in an extra ordinary special way ". That sentence describes Chris to the full extent. Chris have thought of the world as an amazing place to be and wanted to discover new things in life and want to be part of the wild.

    Wild And Free!

    Heart pounding in my chest,
snow flying up from my paws,
ears laid flat against my head,
    tongue flapping from my mouth,
my frosty breath steaming the air,
    cold, hard ground beneath me,
a round white moon rising behind me,
    mountains looming all about me,
the shimmering aurora dancing above me,
    starlight shining down on me,
    freezing winds blowing about me,
howls sounding from deep inside me,
    loyal pack-mates running beside me,
the whole of the North before me,
everything to do and all to see,
just us wolves being wild and free!

This poem is mainly a wolves point of view. It explain how it can make a person feel when there wild and free. It will make them feel like a wolf. Wondering around, go where it wants and be free. No rules. No worries. No responsibilities. Chris always wanted that feeling, not to care about nothing of where he will end up. Chris did not want to follow rules and mainly have no responsibilities and do not want to think about anyone or vise versa. When Chris was out in the wild he did not care about where he was going. His only plan was to make it to Alaska and feel whats its like to be free.

Imagine that you are an investigative reporter for the local paper.  Using the evidence that you gathered in your planner, plan and compose a brief narrative to be published about whether or not Pipin was involved in Audrey’s death.  Your narratives should have a strong topic for your audience and rely heavily on evidence from your reading.  Articles should have a title and be at least two paragraphs in length.  Pictures are a plus!

Pipin was not involved in Audreys' death. Audrey wanted to go 561 fee, 36 less than him that is the deepest a human have ever gone. The terrible weather had a big effect on there dive. Pinin realise she was going down too slow. Pascal was trying him self to get her above the water.

Audrey 538 feet deep and the valve was not inflating. Due to the lack of help Pipin and the other safetly men was there to do. Pipin tried to help her get air but it was already to late. They tried as fast as they can to bring her back so she can get air, but they have failed. Pipin would have not wanted anything dangerous to happen to his wife.

Chris's adventure would have been different with access to today's technology!

Chris's adventure would have changed a whole long is he had access to today's technology. While being out in the wild Chris would have GPS and he would never get lost. Is Chris also had a cell phone i do not think he would have ever died on his journey. Technology helps a lot, Chris would have gone to Alaska quicker and easier and just one straight road with out any problems.

    FIJI

    1. Where are you going? Im going to Fiji. Why? I would love to go to fiji because its very calming. Its a good place to get away from the United States into a place that is peaceful.
Where is it on a map? Fiji is in the south pacific. Its a very small island, slightly smaller than the state of New Jersey.

    2. How long will you be traveling? I would be traveling to Fiji for 10 days. 10 days is just enough time to start relaxing and explore the islands of Fiji. Fiji have plenty of places of sites to see. I will stay busy for the full 10 days of being there.

    3. How do you plan to travel? From New Jersey i would get to Fiji by plane. The fastest and  easy way to get to the island of Fiji. My second option is to take a boat, thats going to be a real long time but i would enjoy the ride.
Why are you choosing this mode of transportation? I Choose plane as a mode of transportation because it will be a safe and fast way to get to Fiji.

    4. What will you need for your trip? On my trip to Fiji all i will need to summer clothes, because Fiji is really nice and warm. Also i would bring money. Money will be important on this trip, its going to be real expensive. i would also pack camera to take pictures of all the beautiful sites and to capture all the moments i will experience there. How are you going to provide food/traveling expenses while you're on the road? I would save up money for all food expenses on this trip.

    5. What do you want to accomplish on this trip? On this trip i would like to finally see reefs and experience swimming in the clear blue water, and also swimming with dolphins. I do not have major goals on this trip except have a good time.

    6. How will you record your experiences? I would record my experiences in a journal on my 10 day trip. i would takes pictures of the sites. Also i would track down what area on the island i am staying and the food i am eating and the people around me. i would write down how i am feeling in the in each situation, and what its like to be in a beautiful place like Fiji.
